A semester of full-time student teaching (15 weeks) and a culminating performance assessment (portfolio) is required to be endorsed for certification. There is no comprehensive written examination. The BCITE and Marketing Education concentrations award the Instructional Certificate for grades K-12 and the Industrial Education concentration awards the Vocational Instructional ertificate for grades 7-12.
To remain in good academic standing, a student must not accumulate more than two grades below B- or one F. To graduate, students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and may not have an incomplete on their graduate record.
Students have four consecutive years from the semster of acceptance to complete the master's degree and are expected to be continuously enrolled every fall and spring semester. A fee is charged by the University for any semester a student is not enrolled and a leave of absence form must be filed. The semsester of a leave of absence counts toward the four year time limit.
Students must meet all prerequisites for the CTE concentration to which they are applying: Business, Computer, and Information Technology Education; Industrial Education; or Marketing Education. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) expects that all individuals seeking teacher certification at the master's level, regardless of the concentration/specialization, have taken at least six (6) credits of college-level mathematics and six (6) credits of college-level English composition and literature in their undergraduate program. Prospective students should contact an advisor to discuss course/program prerequisites for their specialization in the Career andTechnical Education concentration
